blog + twitter = blitter

And that’s how I came up with the title of my random post.
It’s math people.
I mean, after 7 years of being married to a physics geek,
it was bound to happen that eventually I would get smart.
So.
I have many thoughts.
And I know how you guys like to keep up.
Blitter will help you do just that.
So, without further adieu….
~ In tradition of trying to find the positive in sucky things:
The good thing about being stuck at home for two weeks due to sickness is…
when you’re finally better and you get to live life again, you kinda think life is AWESOME.
~~~~~~~
~ I am on DAY THREE of being back on track with healthy eating….i.e. no sugar/gluten.
I can’t believe I let Ellen get ahead of me.
Now she will totally think this was her idea.
~~~~~~~
~ After watching Food, Inc….Jimmy, who made fun of the whole idea before putting it on, was the first one to the store the next morning to buy free range chicken, grass fed beef, and organic raw vegetables.
And then he made us the most incredibly healthy and delicious meal ever for dinner.
Now, who was the skeptic again?
~~~~~~~
~ Now that I am eating healthier, I feel like I should hug a tree.
Or maybe, even, grow a tree.
Or at the very least, try to keep a plant alive.
Baby steps.
~~~~~~~
~ Believe it or not, I am still trying to decide which initials to get on my Valentines Day gift….
Seriously, I’m starting to lose sleep over this freaking necklace.
I have issues.
And if I had more than 45 minutes in each therapy session, I’d probably bring this up.
~~~~~~~
~ Jimmy taught Taylor how to ride his bike without training wheels on Super Bowl Sunday. And that is why I love having a husband who doesn’t watch football.
~~~~~~~
~ Jest wanted to let my reeders no that if I hav mispelled a werd on my posts,
their is know need too correct me anonymously…
we are all grown ups here, and I’m always okay with a litle help now an than.
{Sed too the anonymous commenter who helped me with woe is me.}

~~~~~~~
~ Every time I take my vitamin d, I sing to myself….
“I got a pocket, got a pocket full of sunshine….woah, oh oh oh…”
Makes complete sense, right?
Vitamin D = Sunshine.
I am so clever.
And so on top of math symbols apparently.
~~~~~~~
~ Jimmy and I are applying for our foster care license, so we can hopefully care for that little boy I mentioned last week.
This coming from the girl who was so sure she ONLY wanted two kids.
Oh God, you tricky guy, you.
~~~~~~~
~ After watching the first half of Jersey Shore on Sunday
(yes, we’re behind the times since giving up weeknight t.v.)
Jimmy announced he will now be called “The Happenin” because,
“That’s what’s happenin’ right now!”
And then he did this move that involved both hands and a thrust of his pelvis.
He also continued to end each sentence with that phrase for the. rest. of. the. night.
Jealous?
~~~~~~~
~ Speaking of the husband.
He’s been asking me for weeks if he should shave his head with no attachment rather than his usual 1, and I continually spoke with wisdom telling him no thanks.
But then in a moment of weakness (I was on the phone) he asked me again, and to get him to shoo, I uttered the words….”ya ya, whatever you want.”
Which everyone should know in busy speak means: “No way, not in a million years!”
{I mean, it usually works with Taylor when he’s asking about using scissors and knives….}
Anyway, twenty minutes later I see this:
{never leave a man unattended with his clippers}
{a beanie is better than a scarf, right? Watch Grey Gardens and you’ll understand.}
~~~~~~~
~ And because we’re trying to become foster parents, I feel the need to say I was TOTALLY kidding about scissors and knives.
Ahem.
I have had this top for MONTHS, and I just got around to wearing it last weekend. Actually, this outfit was the last time I got dressed which was LAST SUNDAY!!!
The day after these pictures, I got sick.
I know, sad, huh?
As for the fish face….thought I would try something new.
It kinda works, right?
~~~~~~~
So, I thought I’d fill you in real quick on life.
My heart has been heavy all week.
Besides the house of sickness…we’ve had a lot going on.
On Sunday night we received a call late at night that a close family member of Jimmy’s died suddenly from a massive heart attack.
This is the second death within the same family in less than a year….
so it’s extremely shocking and the whole situation surrounding it is really quite heartbreaking.
Along with that, both Jimmy and I have a deep burden on our heart for a little boy we happen to know that has been placed in protective child custody.
While I can’t go too much into specifics,
if you have any, we would appreciate all the prayers you have to give regarding that situation.
And with that….
you see why I may have been a little absent this week….
hopefully I’ll be back on track next week.
So, excuse me while I go eat a tub of ice cream, and if anyone has any cookie dough (suzanne!), feel free to send it along.
mmmkaythanks.
By the way, I’ll be back on the no sugar thing AFTER I’m done with this INSANE flu/cold thing.
{I’m pretty sure I’m dying of swine flu and I can’t go without one last sweet thing in my tummy.}
WHICH by the way, I’m pretty certain Ellen’s been reading my blog, because just this week she decided to give up sugar as well.
Coincidence?
I think not.
Sorry Kathy, but I think she loves me.

free therapy

What if….
you had access to one of the greatest minds in the world?

{other than me, of course}

And you could ask that great mind anything you wanted and then sit back and bask in all their incredible wisdom?
What would you ask?
Well, wonder no more.
Because I just so happen to know people.
Do you see that sponsor over there to left (to the left) that says Family Help Today?
Ya, well she, Shelby Riley, just so happens to be one of the best and most knowledgeable therapists in the world.
According to me.
And I know, because she is one of my favorite friends, so I’m totally unbiased.
But, seriously.
She is amazing.
And not only is she totally good at what she does,
but she is also kinda hilarious at the same time.
I know, funny and wise…oh and cute???
I mean, I thought I was the only one out there until she came along.
So, wait…where was I going with this?
Oh ya.
Shelby has this great column on her website called Ask Shelby where people write in with their problems, and she gives them the greatest advice ever.
And it’s free.

{She also has these AMAZING e-books for a small fee that honestly, will change your life.
I know, because I got to help edit one, and well…look at me now.}
But, here’s where you guys get to benefit.
She is going to do a column HERE!
For you guys!!!
So, here’s what you gotta do.
Think of a problem you have,
an issue you’re dealing with,
or something you’ve always needed advice on,
and ask it in the comments.
Go ahead and be anonymous if you must….
we understand protecting your privacy and all that.
And then next week, Shelby will be back with one (or more) questions to answer.
Don’t miss out on your chance to bask in the glory of a wise mind.
Because one day when she’s on Oprah, you can say, I asked her when.
P.S.
Because I’m sure you’re losing sleep over the monogram as well,
I’m thinking of:
SHC
for Summer Helen Caroline.
My sister seems to agree, and she’s usually right.
Or so she’s always told me.

you agree too?

true love shares

My sweet lil baby on Day 1 of the flu while she laid on my lap….
Thank the good Lord she’s back to normal again, 6 days later….
annnnnd just in time for mama to get it.
True love shares, you know.
So, now just imagine those pictures are of me and the way I’m feeling now….
{woe is me}
And of course, I would be the one to get the flu that INCREASES the appetite.
What’s that all about???
~~~~~~~
By the way, thanks so much you guys for your help yesterday with the monogram.
I have it narrowed down to:
HSC – for Summer in the middle and my two middle names
{the three names I’ll always have no matter what…}
or
TSC – for Taylor, Summer, Chloe
{but what if we adopt one day??? poor kid would be left out.}
decisions, decisions.
~~~~~~~
Anyway….some BIG stuff is going on in life round these parts right now.
So, if I seem a bit absent, I am.
I know I’ve been slow to respond to emails and comments, but there really is a good reason.
Be patient with me, love me still…
And when I can, I’ll explain more.

i got screwed in the monogram department

Like my sister said tonight, I got screwed in the monogram department.
Which is kind of a problem at the moment because Jimmy just showed me my Valentines Day gift, and it’s this incredible necklace I have been da-roooooling over for months.
And now, this fabulous piece of heaven gets to be mine….if only I could make a freaking decision on the the three initials.
Here are my issues.
I have two middle names.
And my last name begins with an S, the same letter as my first name.
So, the usual monogram goes: first initial, last initial, middle initial…right?
Ya, cause that won’t work so much.
Being that there would be two S’s right next to each other, and then I would have to choose only one of my middle initials.
I mean, that’s like choosing your favorite child…I just can’t.

{although, when it comes to my children, truth be told, I do choose depending on the day, or minute…}

Okay, I know this is getting confusing…so let’s see if I can make it more simple for you.
Here are the initials I have to work with.

{getting sick of the word initials yet? Just wait, you will.}

S: for Summer

H: for Helen (middle initial #1}

C: for Caroline (middle initial #2}

S: for my last name

or…..

there’s another H I could use: for my maiden name, even though I would probably be just as happy to excuse myself from that side of the family now that my dad’s gone…

another story for another time.

So maybe that H isn’t such a good idea after all.
I should also mention that I don’t much like the H before the S because it makes me think of “High School.”
You know like SHS.

Something High School.

I don’t want people thinking I got a monogram necklace of my high school.
Okay, now are you seeing my problem???
I swear, I will lose sleep over this.
I am that retarded.
So, I need you guys to tell me.
If you were me, what would you do?
And no, I will not look for another gift…(Malia…)
Maybe I should just do my kids initials, T and C, with the S in the middle and forget about me altogether.
That’s what happens when you have kids anyway, right?
Or the S in the middle could be me in between the kids initials…
Shoot…
I just. can’t. decide.
This will be the death of me.
You must help now.
My PMS depends on you.
My Valentines Day depends on you.
No pressure though.
{ish.}

i am not weak, i blame the pms

You’ll have to forgive me…
the whole, I’m giving up sugar and gluten till Valentines Day thing?
Um, ya….totally went out the window when PMS flew in.
Isn’t PMS the STRANGEST thing ever?
{men, you’re allowed to nod yes…}
I mean, one minute I am chugging along on my merry positive happy, God is so great, way….
and the next minute I am in my cozy clothes on the couch jonesing for a slice of Vons chocolate cake and doing all I can to hold back tears.
My life is fine, guys.
Things are great.
I have NO reason to cry.

{other than this sick baby attached to my side….ugh!}

Just as soon as I am able to swallow my unexplained sadness, I am then overcome with love.
Overwhelming love.
And it’s all I can do not to pick up the phone and call every single one of my favorite friends and tell them how much I love and adore them, and do they even know how much they could possibly mean to me????
But then, as soon as that passes….
I suddenly become obsessed with the fact that my legs must be retaining water,
because they seem bigger than they have ever been in my whole life.
So, once again, I am back on the couch in my cozy clothes…
EATING the chocolate cake from Vons because if my legs are going to be as big as tree trunks, I may as well eat something that explains it.
And then I convince Jimmy that if I’m going down, he is too, so we order a pizza and decide that PMS is an exception, and we’ll start over on Monday.
Only, as I am eating and enjoying, quite quickly I am struck with enormous guilt…
guilt that I have spent the entire weekend pouting around about thick legs, a pouchy tummy, and whether or not I should splurge on sugar,
when there are far greater issues in this world.
Seriously?
Am I really going to have a moment about a few pounds I may or may not have gained when there are orphaned children in Haiti?
Do you see how this crazy cycle of PMS works???
{summer, come back, come back!}
I promise…I am not weak, or shallow, I just blame the PMS.
