what do i eat?

A lot of you know that I am almost 100% gluten and sugar free,
as well as almost completely organic.
Actually I would say 6 of the 7 days, I eat this way.
It started as a cleanse, but I ended up liking the way I felt so much eating that way, that I decided to go semi full time.
I do allow a reward meal…
okay…sometimes it’s actually a day or weekend depending on what’s going on.
It seems to work for me.
All in moderation, right?
I just think,
actually I know when it comes to myself…
that if I cut something out completely,
I will go OVERBOARD!
Anyway…a few of you guys have asked since I cut out gluten & sugar,
“So then what DO YOU EAT?”
And while I am still learning and finding new things,
I thought I’d share a few things I have found kinda work for me.
Also, keep in mind I am PICKY.
I eat like a child.
I like things plain.
Simple.
And I can eat the same things day in and day out.
So, maybe I’m not the BEST person to give food advice,
but whatever.
It’s my blog,
so let’s keep making it about me for the moment.
Okay, so here’s a list of things I love that are pretty low cal, healthy, and super duper yummy.
*Gluten Free Waffles w/butter and low sugar jelly
(I get the ones from Henry’s that have the Omega 3’s)
*Think Thin Bars
(or bites, which are amazingly delish.)
*Lara Bars
(I especially love the Peanut Butter or PB&J ones)
*Organic Apples/Organic All Natural Peanut Butter or Almond Butter
*Rice Cake w/Peanut Butter (or almond butter) and either sugar free or low sugar jelly
*All Fruit
(everything with exposed skin, I eat organic.)
*Nut Thin Crackers
(Love the cheddar ones, mm mm mmmmm!)
*Edamame Crackers from Trader Joes
*Zevia
(all natural soda sweetened with Stevia, for you diet coke fans)
*Guru
(my happy crack!)
*Lundberg Creamy Parmesean Risotto w/organic free range chicken breast
*Taco salad, with organic spinach, free range organic meat/turkey, organic tomatoes, and shredded cheese
*Quinoa made with vegetable stock, topped with free range organic chicken breast

Okay, so this is JUST the beginning.
Gluten Free Mommy and Gluten Free Girl both have awesome recipes,
and if you have a Sprouts,
then you will hit the jackpot!
I always find awesome gluten free/low or no sugar snacks and ideas.
Oooh, and I just found some chicken nuggets there that are ORGANIC and GLUTEN FREE, and the kids munch those babies like they’re going out of style.
One thing Tracy Anderson suggests is going dairy free,
but I’m not yet completely on that bandwagon.
Anybody have research that can sway me one way or the other?
I am already not a big milk lover,
but Jimmy is definitely not on board with cutting dairy out of our lives.
So we’re half and half.
Anyway, that about covers it for food.
I think.
If you have any questions, just ask in the comments.
And if you have any other amazing food ideas, leave those too!!!
And tomorrow….last part of the heath expo.
I’ll answer any questions you have,
and fill you in on supplements and vitamins that I deem important.

  1. interesting, not sure if I could cope but it’s great!

  2. I just started a step down vegetarian diet and they say that milk actually increases your risk for osteoporosis but I’m not entirely sure what studies prove thats accurate.

There are some good books out there covering more of the vegetarian and organic stuff – What to Eat by Marion Nestle is a good one to get started!

  3. Loving these posts! We’re making the decision to start eating healthier and I’m going to try and start working out regularly (since that’s currently not going so well! haha) and so these posts are definitely helping me to see some options! Especially because I am also a picky childlike eater like you, seriously, my husband makes fun of me all the time. Do you find that it’s very much more expensive to eat this way, or are you saving money? Just curious on that aspect!

  4. I’ll have to try a few of the things you posted. You would love this book by Kat James- she talks a lot about cutting sugar—Have a great day!

    here’s her website

  5. I have a new found love for eating healthy and love finding new recipes!

I’ll have to check out those sites!

  6. i have a lot of food allergies, so it seems we eat similar things!!

  7. I have a feeling my sister might need to get on this gluten-free wagon because her tummy has been doing some really strange things to her 🙁 I feel so bad for her… but now at least I have somewhere to direct her!!

I was just tweeting about how I am going to eat a chocolate truffle for breakfast… now I am feeling guilty 😉

  8. i went on a vegetarian/only organic kick for quite a while but i’m back to my meat eating self. i do eat pretty healthy when i’m not eating out 😉

hope you are having a great week hun!!

  9. Very nice list!

  10. i need to follow your lead, my love.

  11. i don’t know if i could go anything-free, but the food you listed sounds delish, especially the risotto! and i totally drooled all over my laptop when i saw the big chunks of feta cheese in that salad!

  12. I’ve got to say that I love my sugar and gluten, but that salad does look yummy!

  13. I love how healthy you are – I need to take your advice!

  14. I love Lara Bars!!! 🙂

  15. I eat like a child too 🙂

  16. My mom suffers from fibromyalogia & has cut out almost all dairy. She says there’s a link between teh two & has already noticed a difference. She drinks rice milk if she wants a bowl of cereal & limits her to dairy to very very little if at all.

I’m not sure I could do it though. Not that I’m a big fan of milk, but I’m a huge fan of ice cream.

  17. my husband makes fun of me for eating like a child, too.. i do like things plain and simple! and i’ve also done both gluten free and sugar free cleanses.. but not at once! i’m so totally impressed. quinoa has definitely remained a staple food item in our house.. i love it so much.
