she’s kind of like having a dog

{our beloved dog Bradley…who has a new home where he can be the only child like he was meant to be}
I swear, Chloe is not the same kind of toddler that Taylor was.
Night and day really.
But I guess, either way, it’s not all that easy.
It’s just that with Chloe,
and I’m sure she’ll love this when she gets older,
it’s more like having a dog rather than a toddler.
For example:
Every time the door opens I have to yell:
“Close the door quick, or you’re going to let the Chloe out!”
Because really, she will BOOK IT, the second she gets a chance.
And she’ll only look back to flash you a devilish grin that says, see ya later suckers.
Or…
How she loves to put EVERYTHING in her mouth and then the second you go to get it out,
she runs away with a smile….as though she is playing a fun little game with you.
At times, I swear when I’m pulling whatever it may be out,
she shakes her head back and forth really fast with a little growl.
I think.
I can’t be sure.
For a long time, it was shoes. She loved to bite and chew on shoes.
Not even kidding.
Also….
She started out in a high chair for meals.
But everything ended up on the floor instead of her mouth.
Not so fun for me.
Then I thought….life may be easier if I just put her seat on the ground.
So I did.
But still, she couldn’t resist the urge to throw it all on the floor.
And then,
being that she’s the second kid and all,
I decided to take away the seat all together and simply put the food on the floor, saving time for everyone involved.
And what do you know, she’s happy as can be, and she eats every last bite.

{rough, rough}

I’m thinking of investing in some cute little leopard doggie bowls with her name on it….
but I’m not sure how much that will cost me in therapy bills down the road.
And then there’s her favorite game.
I throw the ball across the room, and she runs to get it, then brings it back to me.
This can go on for quite some time…
and it is really beneficial to me in those times I want to get some writing done.
She also really loves other dogs.
If she had a tail, it would wag every time she saw one.
So you see….as long as she’s a toddler, there really isn’t a need for pets.
Because she’s kinda like having a dog.
Chloe….I love you.
Please don’t be mad at this post when you get older.
Your dad made me write it.

Comments

  1. If she grabs a roll of toilet paper with her mouth then shreds it to pieces throughout the house… or starts uncontrollably moving her leg when you scratch a certain spot on her back… or even worse, starts drinking from the bowl… I’d say you’re in trouble!

  2. i think you might be onto something. this could be like the latest trend in parenting techniques. i say write a book and make a million!

  3. she’s beautiful. i believe that toddlers are a lot like dogs in terms of behaviors and training. my son doesn’t eat at all. maybe if i put the food on the floor, he will be more likely to eat. take care and thanks for sharing.

  4. LOL.. so funny. she must be a character, and when she get bigger a perfect Vet doctor.

    My WW link for you

  5. I think all babies are like dogs. If there’s a bowl of water on the floor (at people’s houses who have pets), Tristan still tries to drink out of it. And he plays fetch too

  6. You are not alone in this, I too often think of raising my toddlers as training dogs. In fact, I used tricks from the those dog training shows. 😉

  7. Raleigh is the exact same way! Im glad Im not the only mom who feeds their child on the floor!

  8. Awe this is halarious….

  9. Hahahaha- she’s an awfully cute dog!

  10. So cute, she won’t be mad when she is older…do you want my dog to come visit and stay???

  11. Very cute post! She is adorable!

  12. So when she’s a senior in high school, you need to take out one of those adds in the back of the yearbook and post this. She’ll love it, I promise.

  20. that is hillarious!! I love how you said quick close the door!! We do that w/our dog!! What kind is that in the picture?? is it a bichon or poodle??

  21. Should I be glad I DON”T have a dog? I am thinking that 2 kids is enough now! (Oh, and 23 4th graders!)

  22. Pets are good training for children. They are also a comforting addition once the kids all leave home 🙂

  23. chloe sounds SO much like conner – unreal! she’s so stinking cute, summer. so stinking ctue!

  24. So cute. I stinkin love babies!

  25. I think she’d look super cute in a spiked collar. Maybe something with rhinestones on it. Giggle!

  26. Cute shots! She looks like a handful:-)

  27. This is hilarious! And she is cute as can be!!

  28. I love this, so cute.

  29. I laughed the whole way through this post! & look at my girl rocking her Chloe tee! She’s the cutest pup in the world, if ya ask me!

  30. She’s so cute Summer…I love that you said that he is sort of like having a dog, lol. Gotta keep your eyes on her! I just grabbed your button and stuck it on my blog, didn’t realize you had one – it’s pretty!

  31. lol that’s hilarious! She’s such a cutie!

  32. Oh man… she’s the perfect child — with or without fur! LOL… and better than a dog, you can put her in diapers!

  33. too funny!!
she could not be any cuter! love that smile of hers!!

  34. I love it!! LOL B is the SAME way – every time the door opens I’m SCREAMING “Close it! CLOSE IT! Closeitcloseitcloseit!” As I’m running toward the door. B ditched the highchair early, too, because I was tired of him flinging his food across the room. Now that he sits in a big boy chair at the table with us, he eats, though, so Chloe’s got him on that one. Also, similarly, B likes to play fetch. Perhaps they’re a match made in heaven. Shall we arrange it?

  35. ha! eating off the floor and chewing on shoes. sounds like a pretty awesome little kid if you ask me! can she be my friend?

  36. You get a sunshine award from me!

Visit my blog to get the details!

    Love your blog!!

  37. Hmmm this makes me rethink not having kids. If mine come out like chloe, i’d probably be okay with it. This coming from a full fledge dog lover 🙂

  38. The dude and Chloe would be friends. He hightails it out the second the door opens too!

  39. That is a hysterical story about your sister.

And I love your dress 🙂

  40. What a precious picture!

  41. How cute! I bet she’ll love it. Or we won’t even have blogs by then because technology has changed so much 🙂
