i got screwed in the monogram department

Like my sister said tonight, I got screwed in the monogram department.
Which is kind of a problem at the moment because Jimmy just showed me my Valentines Day gift, and it’s this incredible necklace I have been da-roooooling over for months.
And now, this fabulous piece of heaven gets to be mine….if only I could make a freaking decision on the the three initials.
Here are my issues.
I have two middle names.
And my last name begins with an S, the same letter as my first name.
So, the usual monogram goes: first initial, last initial, middle initial…right?
Ya, cause that won’t work so much.
Being that there would be two S’s right next to each other, and then I would have to choose only one of my middle initials.
I mean, that’s like choosing your favorite child…I just can’t.

{although, when it comes to my children, truth be told, I do choose depending on the day, or minute…}

Okay, I know this is getting confusing…so let’s see if I can make it more simple for you.
Here are the initials I have to work with.

{getting sick of the word initials yet? Just wait, you will.}

S: for Summer

H: for Helen (middle initial #1}

C: for Caroline (middle initial #2}

S: for my last name

or…..

there’s another H I could use: for my maiden name, even though I would probably be just as happy to excuse myself from that side of the family now that my dad’s gone…

another story for another time.

So maybe that H isn’t such a good idea after all.
I should also mention that I don’t much like the H before the S because it makes me think of “High School.”
You know like SHS.

Something High School.

I don’t want people thinking I got a monogram necklace of my high school.
Okay, now are you seeing my problem???
I swear, I will lose sleep over this.
I am that retarded.
So, I need you guys to tell me.
If you were me, what would you do?
And no, I will not look for another gift…(Malia…)
Maybe I should just do my kids initials, T and C, with the S in the middle and forget about me altogether.
That’s what happens when you have kids anyway, right?
Or the S in the middle could be me in between the kids initials…
Shoot…
I just. can’t. decide.
This will be the death of me.
You must help now.
My PMS depends on you.
My Valentines Day depends on you.
No pressure though.
{ish.}

  1. oh man, you’re right. my little one has two middle names, but what we do now is lump the first middle name in with his actual first name (although we don’t actually call him both names). this way, he only has one middle name. but even if you did that, you would still have the two S’s together. maybe just make them all S’s… summer, summer, summer!

  2. Wow… Umm… I might do the SCS. Or your children’s names.

  3. I am sure whichever you decide it will look nice.

How about SHC – Summer – Hot – Chick?!?

    A possible abbreviation!

    Loving the new blog-makeover! xx

  4. i think you got a winner with your little ones initials!!! i really like that idea…and you could even do your husband’s name as the middle initial so that it’s the three most important folks in your life close to your heart when you wear it….awwwww cheese for breakfast!!! haha…seriously though i like that idea cause i came up with it!

  5. Not sure exactly where you are from, but in Kentucky there is a store which the initials are T.S.C. (tractor supply company)…

LOL–maybe not an issue for you?
But I wanted to give you a head’s up.

I have tried to figure this out for you and I am stumped too, GOOD LUCK!!

  6. Tough one… I can’t make a decision. I think I am leaning towards what Brooke said.

And not with monograms but I was screwed with my initials growing up… I was A.R.M. Kids would call me that in school! I hated it!

  7. I like the idea of S in the middle of your two kids or put J in the middle of the T and the C. To remind you always that you are loved. TJC, I think that would be a cool necklace.

  8. that is something i would lose sleep over as well. love that necklace. love monograms, too. i like SCS, or do the names of the kids, or you can do you and jimmy, SHJ. we do our initials on towels, bed linens, etc. good luck and take care.

  9. So I know you don’t want to pick between your middle names, for the sake of monogramming I would. I’d go with SCS.

I wouldn’t do the kids initials- everything is already about them. Make something about you for a change.

  10. I have been dying for an initial necklace sine Alexis on RHWOC got one…yay Im so glad you posted where to get one at! I totally would not have thought of shs if I saw your initials!

  11. I say go with SCS or the kiddies initials. If it were me, seeing how i have no kids, i would go with my own initials. I’m selfish like that 🙂

In the words of tim gunn…make it work!!!

  12. Consider yourself lucky. My 7 yr old son’s initials are….STD. What was I thinking?

  13. Thats funny… Consider yourself lucky, I don’t have a first name… legally.

  14. Maybe the kiddos y Jimmy? Just some food for thought.

  15. LMM Le Musing of Moi ?? just a random idea. 🙂

  16. I love the idea of using your munchkins’ initials!!

  17. i would forget the H and do your kids initials. it’ll have always have meaning for you.

  18. I would do the S, H, and C and forget about your last name all together.

Or the kids name idea was good.

But if it’s for you, about you, I would use your first and middle names only.

  19. I like the kids idea with your initial in the middle.

    OR…

you put only 1 S in the middle for both your first and last name.

  20. yankee girl has a good idea.

i never realized you did first, last, middle. i always thought it was just the normal first, middle, last, in which case i would have done SCS

  21. you should go with your kids intials and the s in the niddle unless you think you may have one more kid!!

  22. How about you screw the middle name initial (only in the necklace, since I think both your middle names are beautiful!) and just do your first and last name?

  23. How about skipping your initials altogether and just going the PMS route? Ok, probably not.

I don’t think the two S’s next to each other would look bad, because isn’t the middle one (for your last name) going to be larger? I like SSC myself?

Good luck and don’t lose too much sleep…beautiful gift!

  24. I would do SCS. I have never heard of doing it first, last, middle. I love this necklace though!!

  25. That necklace is gorgeous- It reminds me of the one on OC Housewives Alexis wears. I would go w/
SCS or your children’s names. Have a great day!!

    Kelly

  26. I say just do an S in the middle to represent your first and last name and then do your 2 middle initials on the sides!

  27. I TOTALLY love the kid’s initial idea with you in the middle. That’s what I would do, but that’s me. Otherwise, I like the SCS. That works and would look good too. :O)

  28. I too would do SCS…sounds like a good plan to me. That necklace is gorgeous, you are so right!!

  29. i vote for the kiddie initials! more special to the momma 😉
    love the necklace!!

  30. I like SCS or SSC, if you’re going to go with the last initial in the middle. Then you don’t have to deal with that dreaded “H” issue.

  31. Yes, yes… I went to an SHS, I can see how that would bug you. I’ve never even realized that & i know your maiden name! Funny funny!

This is a hard one, lady. I think I’d go with the babes initials if it were me!

  32. oooh fun! i love these kinds of dilemmas. reier hates it because i spend ALL my time on them, for like days. but then i feel really good about it. especially when i can talk to my friends about i! LOVE that you posted so we can all chime in. 😉

i think it depends on what you’re going for: you could do your kids and be a sweet mama. or you could do your own name (i like the idea of your first initial and then your two middle initials. then it’s totally YOU, which is a nice thing to have on a piece of jewelry once in a while.) or you could do something about you and jimmy (SLJ, summer loves jimmy or JLS jimmy loves summer, which would be SUPER sweet seein’ as how this is a gift from him).

so yeah, i’m a lot of help aren’t i? sorry!

like my old mentor used to say: “it depends!”
(i used to HATE that. but it’s true for 99% of all questions.)

and then, of course you must remember that the piece is gorgeous, no matter what letters you end up choosing! win, win.

    love you!
    good luck!
    can’t wait to see it!

  33. kid-S-kid
do that! and the S could be for summer or your last name, either way it doesnt matter. but i think the last name double middle initial thing makes it too weird to do your own name or leave out a name! ahhhh exhausting!! 🙂

  34. I’d go with the kids and you in the middle. Anyway you look at it, this is an AWESOME necklace!

  35. You and I don’t know each other, so my opinion doesn’t really count. But. I will give it anyway. I choose SCS. My married initials are CRC and I like it fine. 🙂

Course, I am kind of a dork.

  36. The funny thing is that the initials in the picture are mine, lol.

  37. Following you from Friday Follow.

  38. See I guess initials do matter. My son’s initials are SAK and my brother made fun of me but maybe it does matter. 🙂

  39. Well, duh.. apparently I didn’t read the last one earlier with you in the middle of the kids. I like that too! That one could be either/or so it’s kind of a win/win…

  40. i like the idea of yours in the middle and the two kiddos on either side.

  41. I think getting your kids’ names would be great! TCS?

Beautiful necklace by the way. How do you get your husband to pick things out like that for you on his own??

  42. OK, so I have it solved… how about PMS? LOL

    Ok, maybe not.

Lovely necklace. Hope you are able to figure it out. (my initials spell out “DAB”. Yeah, not putting that on a necklace either.)

  43. Hmm, that’s a tough one. What were you called when you were in trouble as a child?

  44. Never expected choosing a monogram would be so difficult! We offer an amazing selection of monogram necklaces and more are being added soon. You should be able to get a 4letter monogram necklace. We’ve done it for customers so we know it can be done.
