two oh one oh, inspiration & no freaking t.v.

Two Oh One Oh, what up!!!
Seriously guys, I am OBSESSED with this new decade.
I mean, I feel alive and awake and like things are ‘bouts to happen ’round here.
It just feels good to be taking control of my thoughts and mind, and making the most of what happens to me.
I read this quote in The Alchemist that kinda inspired me too:

I don’t live in either my past or my future. I’m interested only in the present. If you can concentrate always on the present, you’ll be a happy (wo)man.
Don’t you just love that?
Theme of this year, for sure.
{sick of the peppy ‘tude yet?}
Moving on….
It’s the first “official” night of no T.V. and it happens to fall on the season premiere of The Bachelor.
Hmmmph.
That’s okay, our T.V. rule only applies to Mon-Fri evenings.
So come nap time tomorrow….I may just be popping on some good ol reality tv.
Maybe.
I just don’t know if I can handle that guy.
I mean, really….sweet as he is….he is still a way HUGE cheeseball.
Never been into cheeseballs much.
Cheaters maybe.
Unforgivers, totally.
Uncommitters, heck ya.
{All before Jimmy, of course!}
But, cheeseballers….ick, it just kinda makes me want to throw up a little bit.
I have to be choosy too about what I watch during the day, because I only get one to two hours for nap time, so what I watch better be worth my precious time.
Like Glee. Mmmmm, sweet goodness Glee.
I have to say though, I am really loving the no T.V. thing.
We had a few trial runs last week, and Jimmy has seriously TRANSFORMED.
I mean, he is reading BOOKS!
Like with words and information and stuff.
And he’s alert and alive and getting smarter and wiser by the second.
Before the change, this is what I sat next to most nights:
Good times, right?
As for me, I’m not missing it nearly as much as I thought I would.
Maybe that’s because I still have my afternoons….or maybe it’s because for the first time all freaking day long, it’s SILENT in my home.
I love love love silence.
I get to think and reflect and actually write lengthy posts about really not much at all, and in the end, really, it’s YOU ALL who end up reaping the benefits.
Haven’t I always said it’s always about you?
P.S. Did you enter the giveaway worth $150 big ones?

  1. awesome summer! no tv is sooo hard, and we hardly ever do it because, well, what else are you going to do, right? but tonight (i guess the stars are aligned for no tv tonight) we’ve been working hard and relaxing hard and writing and reading…. aahhhh!

    it’s quite.

and i love it quite too.

makes me feel much more alive, and myself. and ready for bed. not passing out.

here’s to your resolution! good luck!!!

  2. Saw a link to your blog from dot… dot… dot… so I’d thought I’d stop by. 🙂 You blogs are sooo awesome! Can’t wait to read more! 🙂

  3. I went for over 2 years without TV, when I was a student I sold my TV to pay for food and never looked back.

The, when my husband deployed last year it was so quiet in the house that I started putting the TV on again. I deeply regret it, now my 2 year old is obsessed. I’m thinking I need to turn it off again.

Good luck, you don’t miss it at all after a while.

  4. I love no TV. We have done it several times when it has gotten out of control. I’d love to do it again after that loooonnnnng Christmas break with three kids and a husband fighting over what to watch…. but American Idol starts soon. 😛

  5. Great idea with the no tv. I couldn’t do it! You and Jimmy are so cute. Are you ever going to post wedding pictures? Or have you alredy and I just missed them? Adorable.

  6. if we had a DVR I’d be all over no-tv nights; I’d just watch them during naptime, too. I love when the tv’s off and my family does something. 🙂 but…I want Biggest Loser and Modern Family & House…lol

  7. I think you guys totally rock for doing this. I have really gotten back into reading the past month or so – meaning I’m just zipping through books, can’t get enough of them, and can’t wait for the next one to start. I’ve just found that I’d rather spend my time reading that watching TV most times. I joke that Dennis and I are like the Cosbys now when we’re both reading together. But, since I’ve been reading more, so has he. Of course, this whole debacle has left me with a SERIOUS backlog of shows on the DVR, and most of the shows were on hiatus, so not sure what I’ll be doing about that now that the new shows are starting. Hope you get some awesome TV time in during your kiddos naps!

  8. What a great post- I love that quote- I just posted on my facebook. Gosh I wish I could turn off the tv- I need to but I feel like this my time to watch as much tv prior to the baby coming.LOL You missed a good Bachelor- he is kind of cheesy but he’s kind of growing on me–

here’s the 1st episode if you want to watch online

  9. I love Glee…Puck is my boyfriend…
and I don’t watch much TV as it is.

Oh, but Lost returns in February 2, and then you’ll see the full level of my obsession. Don’t be scared–you’ve been warned.

  10. For the record: The new Bachelor IS a Cheeseball. I can’t force myself to like him… I just feel like he is totally full of it!

  11. Thanks for the inspiting post! We have been talking about no tv at our house. I love your updates because they might help us reach that goal. Have a great day!

  12. Life without TV is bliss and I guarantee the more you go without it the less you will miss it! I’m your biggest cheer leader for no T.V. Give me an N – give me an O – give me a T – give me a V – what’s that spell…NO TV!!!!!! Go Summer…go Summer…it’s a new year…cancel cable 🙂

  13. I’ve decided that TV is okay in moderation. As a single mom, the TV is the best babysitter while I’m studying/doing homework 🙂 I do limit the time. Once TV time is up he gets his hand held video games-I’m totally kidding 🙂

  14. The Alchemist is the best book ever. Love it. Thanks for the quote to remind me I have to dig it out and read it again.

  15. happy new year lady love!!
wow, you are giving up tv in the evenings!? i suppose if i had a family with kiddos i would consider it as well but i like tv, a lot 😉
hope you have a great week!!

  16. Um, yeah, don’t think the “no TV” thing would fly in our household. My husband has, and I mean HAS to watch his hockey. I like having the tv on but if I think about it, I don’t really watch that much of it. I’m mostly on the computer..hee hee. Now THAT is something my husband would call for….”no computer” time. LOL Yeeeeaaah, don’t think so ;O)

  17. No TV? You are a braver woman than I! The only time I’ve gone no TV was in the womb and forcibly during black outs (no power, no TV – also no internet… I miss that even more!)

  18. I was always an avid tv person! I couldn’t even sleep at night unless my tv was on. Since I’ve been pregnant though, not only do I spend most of the day with the tv off (it’s only on when I’m cleaning, wanting some noise in the background or when I actually sit down to watch something) and we even took out our tv in the bedroom (gasp!) It’s been so peaceful with it gone. I still love my reality tv though and I’m watching a marathon of Tabatha’s Salon Takeover on Bravo as I type this, haha.

  19. No TV is a good thing…we are about to be cable free again, the end of February..so there will be much less tv for us!

  20. We don’t really do TV at our house during the week with the exception of my husband’s odd addiction to ESPN. It makes for much more productive and peaceful nights depending on homework or what we might have going on . . . Good rule!

  21. got to love the silence. we now have no cable and I still manage to waste too much time with tv! but we’ve been getting better at family dinner nights. but thank goodness for internet

  22. I love you, and I hate TV, so this was my favorite post EVER!

Now if only I could get my guy to stop playing video games… Do you know how many pictures I have of Mike sitting at the computer?!?! (The answer is 4,740,321,176,322… times infinity. SIGH.)

  23. Words and information and stuff…hahaha. Present in the moment – a constant goal, always!

  24. Wowza. I wish I had your discipline lady!
