diet secrets of the rich and famous

Okay, okay….so I embellished a little. Diet secrets really aren’t secrets at all, and the Rich and Famous?
Um, ya. HI! That would be me. Not so rich and well…not so famous either. Umm….yet anyway.
Still…I know some stuff. And being that I love you all ever so much, I just woudn’t feel right if I didn’t share all my wealth of knowledge
So, after I had Chloe I worked my BOOT-AY (and boobies) off (literally) by doing P90X, and I was a lean mean machine. You all know, I showed off those guns.
But then the summertime came, and with it a lot of food…mostly chocolate cake, pizza, thick red vines, s’mores, and lots of vacation eating. Little did I know, since I’d given up the scale and all, that 6.5 lovely pounds joined my body without my even knowing it.
Well, okay…I started to know it when my freaking pants felt a bit tight, and the muffin top was more than a muffin. {can you say Costco size?} And when that loveliness happened, I jumped on my scale so fast. It was a sad moment when I had to face the fact that I can’t, in fact, continue to eat the way I did as a teen. Or as a 20 something year old. Or as a person who hasn’t had 2 kids. Or as a person who isn’t on a certain medication that has a side effect of WEIGHT GAIN!
Haaaaay-loooo??? What was I thinking?
And so I had to get serious. I missed my clothes, and in trying to save for a house one day, I couldn’t very well go out and buy new ones. {ya right, like a budget has ever stopped me from shopping…}
SECRET ONE:
First things first…I went on this site that my old trainer gave me the thumbs up on. You enter all your stats, and then it calculates out your calories that you would need to maintain, lose, or gain. Easy peasy.
SECRET TWO:
And then I worked out. Hard. 6 days a week hard. I counted calories and I worked out.
That’s it people. It’s that simple. Calories in, calories out. Well, okay, it’s not THAT simple, because working out and counting calories totally sucks and I was ever so crabby, and I wanted to pig out and binge, and I wanted to skip the workouts for napping….and well, you know the drill. But, I’m stubborn. I hate failure, so I refused to fail. Plus, I have cute jeans. And I was really starting to miss them.
The workout I chose this time around was Physique 57 mixed in with a little of Tracy Andersons Cardio Dance. But you know, I honestly believe that ANY workout you do as long as it’s intense and it hurts and it challenges you, will work. Like I said, calories in…calories out. Other workouts I’ve heard amazing things about: Jackie Warners, P90X, 30 Day Shred, Zumba….basically find what you like, what will keep you interested, and just do it.
SECRET 3:
Food. I like to eat food. I like sweets and I like carbs. So….I found a few things that were low cal and worked them into my diet.
Photobucket
Sara Lee Delightful Whole Wheat bread {2 slices – only 80 calories!!!}
Hebrew National 97% Fat Free Hot Dogs {healthy and pure, and only 45 calories. Goes awesome on a bun with melted cheese on top. Low Fat American Sices. Yum, 210 calories total!}
Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches {EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT. 140 calories}
Quinoa cooked with Vegetable broth mixed with grilled chicken breast. {TO DIE FOR. Only 400ish calories!)
Fiber One Bars. {Delish. Breakfast of champions in my home. 140 calories, lots of fiber}
Yoplait Light {Pineapple and Apple are da bomb. 100 calories}
100 Calorie Pack of Kettle Korn {sweet and salty and lovely}
Uncle Ben’s Instant Rice {Another fave with grilled chicken breast 400ish calories}
SECRET 4:
Oh ya, and last thing. I stop eating at 7pm. Because a real rich and famous person, Gwyneth Paltrow, mentioned here that you should allow 12 hours for your body to digest. Not sure if it works, but whatev.
And there you go. My diet secrets. Not so secret anymore.
Aren’t you feeling lucky? Because one day when I am famous, and I’m selling these secrets for millions, just think, you got them for FREE!
I love you that much.

  2. Go you…nip it in the butt. My secret is that i snack constantly. It keeps your metabolism up!!! Boo for the weight gain medicine…maybe we should switch. Mine makes ya lose weight.
    P.S. Ummm where are the twinkies & ding dongs??!!! Lol

  3. I think popcorn – no cals
    I think snakes – no cals
    I think (hmmm, there’s another one)

    not that you can live on these alone or anything – but it helps for snacking!

    you don’t look like you need a diet anyways!!!

  4. i am trying out the 30 day shred…this afternoon will be day 2. i am notorious for starting a program and then getting bored and stopping (because i don’t lose 15 lbs in 1 week…pshhh), but i am feeling more motivated than normal, so i am thinking i will stick this one out. thanks for the food tips! love your blog, ps.

  5. Eat your breakfast!!..I have been dieting(more like YO-Yo-ing) since I was 30 years old..so..my best trick/tip.. I have one Egglands Best Egg (only egglands..i will never go back to generic eggs) poached or over easy (using pam) on low fat/low carb toast with I can’t believe its not butter spray..It gives me all the energy I need until lunchtime and Im not starving for 4/5 hours..keeps me away from donuts/cookies or anything else some skinny person has around the office.

    You look great summer!!

    PS – i cannot believe you got the
    P90X. I watched that infomercial all the way through awhile back and was amazed. and I love chicken sausage and quinoa! those are healthy alternatives to pork sausage and rice.

  11. Do you know why I love this post? Because yet AGAIN, our stories are eerily similar. I lost 20 pounds after the twinfants were born courtesy of a personal trainer and working out an hour every day and watching what I ate. I looked fantastic and thus invested in some new boobs and a tummy tuck.

    Yeah, I just typed that out loud.

    Lately, my muffin top is OVER the top and that is completely unacceptable. So, back on the elliptical I get and will go by P90X. Sooooo many people have told me that it kicks bootay. Literally.

  12. those are a lot of my go-to foods! Well, back when I was eating better…I need to get there again!

  13. Yeah, my secret is Weight Watchers. I love 35 pounds! Sure, it took a year but I can still eat the junk I ever so love AND I didn’t have to workout!!! Something I despise however, I do love to walk.

  14. I used to do the no eating after 7 thing and it was great. Well great for losing, not like great in general. Anyway, must start that again.

  15. Uh-oh. All that calorie math makes me a little sad after the pizza I ate for dinner, breakfast and then lunch again this morning. Maybe if I run 10 miles I can have another slice….Oh pepperoni, how you tempt me!

  16. But what about the ice cream. I want to have ice cream.

    Sigh

    I really need to start working out but I just lack the motivation. I just can’t seem to get my ass up off the couch.

  17. I totally clicked on the site to see how many calories I should have!! I am big on everything in moderation because I can’t deprive myself of everything!!

  18. Okay, so I know I don’t have extra poundage to lose and since I dance 6 days a week, I’m good on the exercise thing, but here’s my li’l diet testimonial… I’m ADDICTED to sugar. Like it’s crack. But when I was in Chicago this summer for the bootcamp-esque dance intensive, I suddenly stopped eating sugary junk (I think my body was craving pure nourishment from dancing so much, so all I ate was good stuff)… and for the first time in forever, I felt great! I wish I could say that I stayed off the sugar once I returned to CO, but that’s another story… πŸ˜‰

    xoxo J

  19. I also say … stay busy! I hate interrupting a project to eat. So I have learned to put off eating while I’m busy. And I do NOT like feeling full. I just like eating enough to take the edge off. Yep. That’ll keep you pretty darn thin. Yeah, well, I have to focus on making sure that I eat enough. Dang it. What a pain to have to worry about what we eat. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just eat whatever whenever?

  20. Congrats on the weight loss! That took a lot of stick-to-it-ness to get back to your old size. πŸ™‚

  21. I can’t eat after 7?? Help me!! I am going to have to go to bed at 7:15 so I don’t eat. This is going to suck.

    I left you something on my blog! πŸ™‚

  22. i looove quinoa! πŸ™‚ I eat a lot of brown rice, peppers, sugar snap peas and carrots. And Tofu.. but I know that’s scary for some people πŸ™‚

    My go-to snack is always almonds. I LOVE them. You can even get roasted and salted (add an extra 10 calories) but they are still delish! πŸ™‚

  23. I gather you realize how I have been eating for the last three years, and let me tell ya, over a 100 lbs released, it’s working fine with me!!

    I’m adding exercise finally to the plan on a more consistent basis. I thought of you actually last night when I wore my black cowboy boots and shook my bootie for an hour of dance class. It was AWESOME. The dance part girl, not thinking about you,,LOL…

    I worked up an awesome sweat (which I hate to sweat, but when dancing, I LOVE LOVE IT)…

  24. Kudos to you on your discipline Summer! I lack sorely in that department, though I really have the desire! After the baby, I’m hoping the desire to be in my own cute jeans far outweighs the desire for the ice cream!

    Thanks for the great tips!

  25. I enjoyed this post and if you care to drop by, I have a post discussing a disease I acquired this week… it’s called Dunlap Disease and it’s caused by overeating…no one is immune, not even the rich and famous, lol.
