lessons from the glossy pages of magazines

I mentioned that Jimmy planned this amazing weekend getaway for our anniversary, and it was just that. Amazing. Even though we were still technically in California, it felt like we were in another country.
Besides being able to feel like my man and I were dating again, I also had a chance to read my magazines. In fact, I almost needed to bring a separate piece of luggage just for all the back issues I had that I hadn’t had a chance to read.
And so, I read them and I read them and I read them. And I loved every luscious glossy page after glossy page.
While many may think that reading magazines is a brainless waste of time, I will have you know that those people are very wrong. I can prove it to you.
Here is all that I learned in the three days I spent on my cute little island.
  • Miley Cyrus has some child fame issues clearly displayed by her Elle photo shoot. In which, her dad, Billy Ray, said something ever so profound. “I am her friend first, then her parent, then her manager.” Deep. And really, doesn’t it explain so much? ~Lesson learned from Elle Magazine

  • There are not only ‘terrible two’s’, but also ‘trying three’s’ and ‘freaking fours.’ Would’ve been good to know before I had kids. ~Lesson learned from Parents
  • It’s important to allow your child to cry and feel their feelings, rather than tell them to stop crying and chill out. By doing the latter, we are teaching them to stuff their feelings, and then they will grow up to have marriage issues and they will absolutely come back to blame you because of that one time you told them to JUST STOP CRYING!!! ~Also learned from Parents
  • Purses have about 70 percent more bacteria on them than the average toilet seat. One test was done and they found 30 percent of our fashion bags carried fecal bacteria while 10 percent had bacteria that cause staph infections. Yum. ~Another deep one from Parents
  • Badgley & Mischka are a couple. A gay couple that have a fabulous home and lots of horses. I never ever knew that they were together. Or that they were men. Or that they were gay. ~Elle Decor

  • In other couple news, Mila Kunis from That 70’s Show is dating and has been dating Macaulay Culkin for over 6 years. Way weird couple. But, I actually really like her. You know from the article I mean. ~Women’s Health

  • I do not have enough money to buy all that my little heart wants and desires from the pages of Elle Magazine. ~Thanks to Elle for pretending this recession doesn’t exist.
So you see? Reading magazines aren’t a waste of time or brain power! Don’t you feel smarter and wiser already?!?

  6. I don’t think reading magazines is a waste of time. Unless you are in the doctor’s office like I was yesterday and reading away only to come across an ad for the release of “Mona Lisa Smile”. Yeah, that magazine was from Dec. 2003. I’m so glad that you and Jimmy had a great romantic weekend getaway. That is so awesome that he planned it for y’all. 🙂
