blogversations: reading rainbow

Oh ya baby, it’s Blogversations Time. You ready for this?
“I can go anywhere! It’s in a book, let’s take a look, it’s Reading Rainbow!”
Now, I’m telling you, you MUST read this book. Go check out Rachel’s blog at Oh My God, I’m a Mom. Or you can email her to order your copy at: vitalwriter at gmail dot com.
I can’t even really get across to you in this video just how much this book has impacted my thinking about things. I’ve become way more sensitive to what I see on tv, read in magazines, and hear people talking about. And it has shocked me, stunned me really, how hypnotized everyone seems to be by the “should’s” of our body image. I still have SO far to go, but even just this shift of thinking is a start.
Okay, now go throw away your scale, order the book, then come back and see what everyone else is reading!

Happy Easter everyone!

  1. happy easter summer!!

  2. I couldn’t agree with you more. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and it is time that movie makers and magazines realize this. You are beautiful, I am beautiful because we are good people.
This books sound very interesting. I am going to check it out.

  3. Great review! =)

  4. I loved that! I think what you said about instilling this idea of beauty at any size is really important — I’m especially interested in how Taylor can just say, “you’re beautiful,” and not, “you’re skinny.” I need to work on that…

I think I’ll check that book out!

  5. I’m all for getting rid of the scale. But, I’d really like to fit into my clothes again. I’m just not ready to accept the bigger size. I guess I maybe need the book.

  6. I just ordered the book…for 1 cent + $3.99 shipping. Small price to pay for a better body image. Thanks for raising the issue.

  7. I’ve never been a scale person. I just go by how my clothing fits. I have a mirror. I can tell if something looks good. If I’m healthy. I also realize that every woman has a different structure. There are so many different varieties of beautiful. The media is sooooo off.

  8. Dearest Sweet Sister Summer,

I am honored that you gave your time and energy to help spread the word that we are all allowed to love our bodies, dammit. You spoke so eloquently and on target. I am thrilled that you are “thinking” about chucking the scale. I am also deeply warmed that you let us all see your cute, cute face sans make-up.

    I really appreciate your love,
    luv,
    Rachel

  9. I love my body a MINIMUM of seven times a day.

Kidding of course, just trying to gross you out again.

Ill have to point this book out to my wife, dont know that she has ever heard of it.

    Nice post Summer!!

    Jay

  10. Wow. Wow. Wow. I’ve got a $25 gift certificate to Amazon, and as soon as I’m done commenting, I’m buying this book.

You know, I never realized you weren’t wearing makeup. I noticed your glasses because I don’t think I’ve ever seen you wear them before. But, my initial thoughts were that you are just so gorgeous! You look comfortable, you look peaceful, and you are just so beautiful. 🙂

Thanks so much for explaining more about this book. I went over to read Rachel’s most recent post and wished I’d found her blog sooner. I love her honesty, and I love the way she writes. I’m so excited to read this book. I think I’ll even be able to put down my latest Twilight book to read it, or at least go back and forth.

    You rock.

  11. Loved your blogversation! I am going to go check out Rachels blog right now!
