too legit – it’s how i roll

When I started my blog, I had no idea that I would ever have people who would read it. I mean, I thought those near and dear to me might peek in once in awhile, but I never imagined it would become what it is now. In fact, only a small few of the people I know actually read this, while most of my readers are complete strangers. (By strangers I mean, I’ve never met you, though a lot of you I feel I know well.)
Anyway, my goal in starting Le Musings was to get back into my love of writing. I wanted to gain experience, to challenge myself to be creative, and to do something that was just for me that made me feel complete. (writing, you complete me.)
Along the way, I picked up readers. And I was so excited. Then I started getting followers which makes my days brighter when I get a new one, and sadder when one goes away. Oh, the roller coaster of the blogging life.
As life goes on, things change, and I have to learn how to change with them. There is a little struggle now, a delicate balance I am learning. My goal for this blog is and will always remain the same, so how do I adjust to continue to make it work for everyone?
Now that I have readers, it’s no longer just about me. Rather than simply writing for my own personal growth, I have this increasing desire to help others grow as well. (Or to help them learn, or laugh, or decorate, or shop, or dress, or especially to help you all smell better….) The point is, I’m no longer alone on this journey. And I love that. Bring it on.
So, now that we’ve had that moment together and all good feelings are established, I just wanted to be clear about something.
As many bloggers are, I’ve been contacted by numerous PR reps asking me to review their products. I was quite excited, because it not only gave me a chance to try or read new things, but more importantly, it was a welcomed challenge that stretched my comfort zone of writing.
Suddenly, big dreams of become an ad writer filled my head. (Picture Lynette Scavo from Desperate Housewives…but longer hair and less kids. And not nearly as skinny…and of course a whole lot funnier.)
I guess I want to be clear that I am not selling out. My standards are high, and I would never accept any review assignment that wasn’t something I found relevant to either my life or to the lives of my readers. Another thing I want to be clear on, is that you have my word that I will always be honest. If I don’t like something, you will know. If it’s, “eh,” you will know. If I love it, then I will file it among the posts I did long before PR reps, posts titled: “Things I Love.” (*edited to add* And by the way, I only plan on doing one review a week, two at most.)
I’m not even sure any of you care, but I felt it on my heart to be honest.
When it all comes down to it, my love is writing. And it has always been my dream to be able to explore many different avenues of that passion. But, as with all things in my life, I will always do so with the utmost integrity and honesty.
Because that is just how I roll.
Enough said.

  1. i have been drafting a similar post in my head all day. well said summer! email me when you get a second…i have an idea that i think you might be interested in.

  2. Yo, yo! Great post. Any time I read a review from you, I can tell that you are being totally genuine, and the things you have reviewed seem near and dear to your heart. In fact, I got the L’Oreal mascara based on your review, and also the Vitamin shampoo (which I have yet to try). I’d love the water pitcher and the iBoss, but it’s just not in the cards right now. I’ve also got the sense that you only write about products that you truly care about, and products that you think others should know about, too. I, for one, love your product reviews, and I think it’s great that people are contacting you to write about them. Yay for you! 🙂

  3. That’s just being straight up and real. I think most of us getting into blogging for one reason or another and a long the way gain knowledge and insight about what opportunities blogging can afford. Some jump on those opportunities others don’t. It never hurts to evolve and grow as a blogger. Good for your girlfriend – doing what you love!

  4. You’re only a cop out if I don’t get free samples. Seriously, take this opportunity. Keep blogging (including reviews) and let us come along for the ride. Congratulations! And how do I get them to contact me? lol

  5. When I started my blog, it was just to keep family up to date with things going on in my life. I never thought I would actually enjoy writing. With having followers is an added bonus!!

  6. I would love to read reviews from you. I know you are an honest person. I do not think you are selling out or anything.

I have come across a couple of bloggers though how begin doing this and I notice reviews of products become the only blogs they do. I dont want to name names and I am not judging but I do have to admit that I sort of stop reading their blogs sometimes altogether because I always know their new posts are just going to be reviews on products.

I KNOW that you are going to totally different about this because I will know that you are not just going to have the same review for each product saying how great it is. Also you are such a talented writer that I know that you will not let your blog writing take a back seat.

Looking forward to reading the reviews on products from you.

  7. I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

  8. Sweet! If you don’t mind me asking… are you getting paid or is it just free stuff? And how do you get started? I am desperate for work and something from home would be ideal.

Can’t wait to see your reviews. 😀
    God Bless!

  9. i dont think theres anything wrong with doing product reviews… esp with your philosophy! hope you’ll stop over and check out my short story im posting in segments… the ending goes up today!!!

  10. oh girl, i had NO idea what was waiting in the blogworld for me when i started.

i don’t think anyone who has read your posts would think you would be anything but genuine.

bring on the reviews… can’t wait to get your take on things.

  11. It’s always good to be clear on such things. I’m not a fan of product reviews (as long as they are honestly done, as you sound like you’ll be doing them), but one every now and then isn’t a problem.

  12. All bloggers seem to do reviews of what they like and/or don’t like whether they are being paid or not …you shouldn’t worry about it.

    {also …I just dragged the Followers element to the top under my header…{but now I can’t drag it back, fyi} I also changed the border color to black in my html editor. …I wish I could customize it more …I’d honestly like only one row across the top because it takes up too much space :)}

  13. I think that is awesome that you are being contacted to review stuff. I look forward to reading reviews posted by people that on blogs that I read daily. At least I know that they have good taste (obviously, if I take time out of my day to read their blogs) and I get to learn about new products. I’m glad you aren’t turning your blog into all reviews though. I would miss the other stuff too much!

  14. I trust you absolutely! : )

  15. Not an issue with us non-DaddyBloggers. My two bottles of BBQ sauce came without even a request for a review. Other than that nothing has even been posited.

Just be true to yourself. There are a few blogs I read that are starting to lose themselves in the self and other promotion – this is not one of them!

  16. dude, thats way cool. Interesting that you should say some of the things you said. (didnt that make me sound super smart) I started a new blog that I thought maybe you could help with. Just a little something I cooked up… Swing by and tell me what you think. I think its cool you will be reviewing stuff. Cause my PR firm called today, and uh, they totally want me to review some, um diapers and stuff… No, my kids are not my PR firm. I know people. Person. I know a person who knows people. Dang. (talks into recorder) get pr firm to set me up with products to review. wait, I dont have a recorder. (talks into hand) get recorder.

Wait, was that just creepy scary, cause in my mind it was funnier

  17. Popped over from Mama Kat.. just discovered you.. ok, hubby dragging me away.

    I’ll be back, bier sur!
