anxiety sucks and this is my story.

As many of you know, a lot of my life I have struggled with anxiety. I’ve shared often here on my blog, but so many of you have asked me to make a video more in detail about what I’ve been through and how I’ve been able to manage it.

I literally have filmed this three different times over the last couple months, and each time I just never felt it was good enough to share so publicly. ┬áBut this third time I realized that I would always find faults in sharing something so personal, and that I needed to just let go and put it up regardless of how I felt. So, if you have other questions for me that I might not have addressed this time, let me know and I’ll happily collect them all and do another video with all the Q&A’s soon.

I pray with all my heart that by sharing my anxiety story it provides some sort of insight and comfort for all of you who are struggling down this road as well. I want to encourage you to always remember that you are never alone in this, and if you trust and lean on the Lord, He will continually bring beauty from your pain. He promises. And it’s not in His nature to break His promise.

The verses that I mentioned encouraged me during those tough days, and continue to inspire me now:

You will keep in perfect peace
him whose mind is steadfast,
because he trusts in you.
Trust in the LORD forever,
for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.
Isaiah 26

The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.
Exodus 14:14

I lift up my eyes to the hills-
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip-
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD watches over you-
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The LORD will keep you from all harm-
he will watch over your life;
the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
Psalm 121

He is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in
spirit.
Psalm 34:18

The Lord Your God is with you. He is mighty to save. He will take
great delight in you. He will quiet you with his love. He will rejoice
over you with singing.
Zephaniah 3:17

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many
kinds, becuase you know that the testing of your faith develops
perserverance. Perserverance must finish it’s work so that you may be
mature and complete, not lacking anything.
James 1:2-4

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial because when he has
stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has
promised to those who love him.
James 1:12

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of
a sound mind.
2 Tim. 1:7

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me,
for in you my soul takes refuge.
I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings
until the disaster has passed.
I cry out to God Most High,
to God, who fulfills {his purpose} for me.

He sends from heaven and saves me,
rebuking those who hotly pursue me;
God sends his love and his faithfulness.
Psalm 57: 1-3

He who dwells in the shadow of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you will his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
not the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall by your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
If you make the Most High your dwelling–
even the Lord, who is my refuge–
then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
they will lift you up in their hands
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
“Because SHE loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue HER;
I will protect HER, for SHE acknowledges my name.
SHE will call upon me, and I will answer HER;
I will be with HER in trouble,
I will deliver HER and honor HER.
With long life I will satisfy HER
and show Her my salvation.”
Psalm 91

May the God of HOPE fill you will all JOY and PEACE as you TRUST in
Him so you may overflow with HOPE by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13

The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares
for those who trust in Him.
Nahum 1:7

    Thank you for posting this, I have just recently started struggling with anxiety and having panic attacks. I know this isn’t easy to discuss, thank you for sharing your story.

    Thank you for sharing this. I to suffer from major, major anxiety and worry, and there is really nothing much I can do about it besides pray. I didn’t like to write about it, even. But it’s nice to hear I am not alone. xox

    I’m so sorry. My dad died on Halloween night. I didn’t have all that stuff until after my kids and hysterectomy. I had one with colic, and has Aspergers Autism with meltdowns. I have two strong willed children. Actually three. I also had to take care of my mom who fell out of a two story building. I also have a chronic illness. I also don’t have very many family or friends that live by. I understand. I have seen things when they weren’t there. I don’t have that anymore, but it can creep up. I know what you are talking about. A child screeching makes me shake. My loving hubby just stares at me like I have lobsters crawling out of my ears most of the time but he tries to hear me out. I get horrid hot flashes and major anxiety. To cope, I listen to worship, call people to talk to, listen to my bible APP called Insight For Living. I have tried drugs but it did not help. I tried progesterone but it wacked out my hormones. I actually take these hormone balancing herbs called Vitex Chaseberry . Anyhow. I totally agree with what you are saying. I wish I could go to a herbal doctor. I’m sure it has to do with my hormonal disease. What a blessing to know that God is with us no matter what. Thanking the Lord is the best medicine!!! Thx for sharing. Please do a part two. Do you have an excursive routine? Do you drink lots of water? these are my main goals and I think ritually taking my vitamins. I do feel loved and it brings me great joy to share Gods love when I’m hurting.

  4. Thank you so much for sharing these verses. They are so comforting at a very difficult time when your anxiety is getting the best of you. I will continue to pray for everyone that has this terrible condition and that we can all be healed and made well again.

  5. Dear Summer,
    Mag god bless you for sharing his word through scripture. Whenever you are feeling this way, please read the bible to yourself in a low voice aloud. It will give you holy spirit and help you. Also, continue to pray for help. God wants us to keep praying to him asking for his help, along with thanks giving. As you mentioned, god loves us. I too suffer from anxiety and PTSD. Without too much detail my 7 yr old daughter and I were brutally attacked in a car jacking last year. Since the carjacking something changed in me. I stopped getting out of bed. I stopped trusting everyone accept my daughter and my dog. I trained my dog to become a guard dog. Before the carjacking I was in date raped/ drugged, mugged in the city, and in a bad car accident. My life has been hard. I had happy times, but now the sun seems harder to let in. I have shut down and don’t know how to come back to life. That’s my problem, but like you I am looking to God to pull me out of this. I have no one that loves me or cares. I know God loves me and my daughter because we have good hearts. I spoke to a psychologist and he compared me to Job. I have read some of Job in the bible. Job has suffered because God found favor in him and this angered the devil. The devil then said Job only worshipped faith because he was blessed. In this scripture the devil then went on to widen out his accusation against all of mankind. God allowed Job to be tested, but not to be killed. I believe I am being tested because I made all of my paths straight and was baptized. I know God is not to blame for the things we suffer. He is the one that is carrying us through these horrible trials. Anyhow, I am so sorry for your suffering and will keep you in my prayers. I know what it means to suffer. There are 2 amazing scriptures that totally removed my anxiety after reading them many times. The 1 is when God tells us he loves us and compares us to the sparrows worth 2 coins. The other is when God promises not to let us fall. In this second scripture he compares us to the lilies of the fields. Reading the Bible gives us holy spirit. Getting baptized stopped the demonic attacks against me in my home. Calling on gods name will also give you holy spirit. Goss name was placed in the bible over 7,000 times. Man removed it from all of the modern bibles because it was believed to be too holy to say. I disagree. What author places his name 7,000 times to have it removed? In some bibles, gods name can still be found in Psalms 83:18
