new years resolutions: chic or geek?

I adore a new year.
It’s borderline obsessive maybe, like I’m ULTRA excited and giddy about it.
In a WHEEEEEEE sort of way.
I know, it’s weird.
Or is it?!?
And now that I have my workouts down, (you HAVE to get the metamorphosis, it’s amazeballs), and eating healthy isn’t nearly as scary as it used to be (i juice kale, all because of a new years goal!)….it’s time to pay attention to some areas I’ve been lacking in.
Bear with me while I “think” out loud.
This will help me in finalizing the list that I’ll then write down (and categorize. OCD?!?  not at all!), then I’ll tuck it away with all the other years that I revisit and reminisce over.
How can you not think this is exciting and want to do it yourself?!?
{just writing this post is making me feel as though i may not sleep tonight, i’m that pumped up.}
Okay, so here goes…..
Wheeeee!!!!!
While my anxiety is for the most part gone (thank you JESUS!), now I need to start paying more attention to my thoughts.  I need to be taking every thought captive, and make a habit of finding the blessings in EVERYTHING.
{and if Taylor could catch on and have the same attitude, that would be BONUS for everyone}
I want to eliminate yelling from my household.  I don’t want my husband doing it, myself, or the kids.  I want to use the sweet soft voice that Michelle Duggar has down to a science.
{okay, maybe not that sweet, but something close.}
{okay, maybe i’ll just start with not yelling.}
I want to do more with the kids as far as helping other people.
Maybe making it a monthly habit to help the homeless or needy.
We definitely need to STICK to a budget if we are ever to do something with this house and the land.  That means using cash instead of credit cards so that we can finally save.
Maybe learn to cook.  Maybe.  Or at the very least, crockpot.
{or hire someone?}
Family bible time.  Weekly, daily, something….just something.
And it needs to be Jimmy leading it.
So, I’ll make sure to put that on his list as well.
My sister, Heather, has a habit of cleaning the kitchen before going to bed.  The dishwasher is full and running, and that way, she wakes up to a clean slate.
I want to do that too.
Seems like a good plan that could potentially add happiness to my life.
~ I’m also thinking that maybe I could cut out at least ONE reality tv show.
One a year seems like a painless way to ease off the addiction.
And last but not least, I want to clean up this blog and find my new vision and voice.
I have lost that loving feeling here and there over 2011 (comments would help, just sayin’), but I know I’m not ready to quit.
I just need to find what inspires me, where God wants me to go with this, and put the plan into action.

When I finally narrow the list down and categorize it, I’ll be sure to share again.
I’m sure you guys will hardly sleep as well until you know EXACTLY what my goals are for 2012.

So, what about you, my loves?
What are your goals and dreams and aspirations for 2012?
Do you think New Years Resolutions are chic or geek?

  1. oh look! a comment! you have some great goals…the no yelling one sounds really really hard, but definitely would have its benefits. happy new year! xxoo

  2. I would like to take on your no yelling one. To that I would like to add being more patient and tolerant with those people who frustrate the hell out of you, whether it be the slow drivers or inconsiderant rude people…here’s to trying anyway!

  3. I always do the clean kitchen thing and it makes me happy in the morning…gosh, now you got me thinking…I guess I will have to make some goals!!

  4. Clean kitchen, doing it and when you do, you won’t mind getting up in the morning to “CLEAN”!!

    Now you got me thinking…I need to make some goals

    Comment #2….ask, and you shall receive!

  5. Every time I make a goal about loosing weight, I never do it. So instead, I just want to be healther. Eat less junk and work out at least three days a week. I also want to kick my wedding planning into high gear and do as much DIY stuff as possible!

  6. I love new years resolutions! I just wrote a post about mine yesterday. I just like goals in general, but the New Year is especially fun 🙂

  7. To have a baby and become an SAHM 🙂
    And as always, to be healthier. Eat better. Exercise more.

  8. I am setting goals this next year for the first time in a LONG time 🙂 I will be posting most of them to my blog this week.

    Just a thought for your budget have you guys checked out a financial peace university class? My husband and I took the class last fall and its AMAZING the change it has made in our financial life 🙂 we have already paid down one credit card and one of our cars. One more car and cc to go and we will be debt free!! I highly recommend it!!

  9. Your sister’s habit of leaving a clean kitchen before going to bed is how I end my day! it’s the best habit ever, because you wake up and are ready to start breakfast in a good mood with the kitchen ready to be used. The yelling, ay! you may be onto something there I yell -a lot- I feel that I’m heard more if I do. But my husband doesn’t yell and he gets through to the kids 100% of the time, so maybe I might do that one too.

    As for the blog, I think you have to channel what you want and what you need. I had the pleasure of meeting you at an event and you are very sweet and have a great fashion sense. So I would personally like to see posts on fashion, hair, makeup but also how to do it budget friendly (hey there is your saving money resolution!)

    In all honesty I’d like to see posts that show the real Summer.. sweet, energetic, fun and caring 🙂

  10. I had a few silly new year’s resolutions planned, but after reading yours, I feel a bit inspired to make a more genuine list of things I want to accomplish this year. Thank you!!!

  11. All wonderful goals. But your first point is the most important — at least to me and the first step in real change in my life. Changing our thoughts…Thoughts first then actions follow. Good luck.

  12. I am working on my patience and being on time. I can’t stand always being the last family to show up because we can’t get out the door without chaos.
    Cleaning the kitchen at night, btw…so worth it! I’ve been doing it for years and it saves my mornings!!

  13. Five days in, and so far so good!!!

    At least on the yelling part. And the clean kitchen thing.

    Oh, and I cooked! Macaroni on the STOVE instead of the microwave. This is big you guys!!!

    xoxo

  14. Great goals. I need to work on the yelling thing, too. Good luck projecting you vision and voice — I think we all share that dream for 2012.

  15. I don’t think ALL my dishes have been washed (let alone put away) at the same since sometime last July. Seriously. I hate it, but we can’t seem to get past it. We’ll wash some, then bam! enough of this, where’s the vodka? I love your list, though, it’s so thoughtful and prepared, way more than I can say for myself. And the yelling. If only.

  16. I am trying to go to bed earlier and get my day going before my son gets up.

  17. The no yelling one is on my lst too, but so, so hard for me. I’ve been doing a lot of deep breaths and counting to 10.

  18. I am doing something new EVERY day! Gulp!
    🙂 I also need to feed my anxiety less and feed my body more kale!
    Good luck with your resolutions! I think they are great… a nice way to recharge our motivation to live the life we really want.
    Muffy.

  19. I am all over the not yelling bit. I yell entirely too much. I keep telling my kids that if they would stop ignoring my words of wisdom I would stop yelling them at them. But they, um, just ignore me. Good luck with your goals maybe I’ll see you sometime this year!
