how we do lake tahoe

It has been a rough year, a verrrrry long year…and we were definitely feeling in need of some peaceful family bonding time.
As it happened, a close friend of ours offered us a full week in their timeshare up in S. Lake Tahoe,
the only thing was we had to use right away.
And so even though we had just four days to plan…we jumped on the opportunity and headed on up.
A 9 hour drive with two kids,
you can kinda tell we were desperate…
We decided to keep things simple up there, with our only plan being that we would be together as a family at all times.
The kids were happier than ever.
We were happier than ever.
{we did have one lil tiff…gotta be honest, but being together nonstop forced us to work it out relatively quickly.  word to the wise, don’t criticize a stay at home mom for wanting to lay in bed all day for just ONE day on vacation.  don’t believe me?  just ask jimmy.}
And there are really no words for the beauty that is South Lake Tahoe.
Thought I’d share some of my favorite pictures from the trip….

{the view from part of our “adventure drive.” where we ended up on a part of the mountain that had signs “DANGER! AVALANCHE AREA!” abort adventure!}

{i decided that i am much more of a snow bunny than a beach bunny, and that i could so become a professional sledder. Jimmy made some awesome jumps and they absolutely thrilled me. who needs a snowboard?}

{but there is someone in the family who is neither a snow bunny NOR a beach bunny. someone who hates snow and sand and demands to be carried across both.}

{and then there’s my son, who adores the snow as much as i…he continually told us he wanted to live there.}

{oh how i love everything and everyone in this picture. wish i could have frozen this moment and put it in my pocket.}

{every time i see a sailboat, i think of and miss my dad….and there he was in this incredible place}

Beautiful, right?
Looks peaceful, huh?

So when the week was done,
we headed for home with all kinds of peace and love in our hearts….

Annnnnnnnnnd then this happened:

Yes, you’re seeing that right.
Jimmy and a bunch of cops.
You see we have this ongoing banter over the years in the car.
I tell him to “watch out,” and he tells me to “shhhh.” And then he reminds me that he’s NEVER been in an accident.

So, when he went ramming into an undercover police car at a stop light, that fun lil banter was finally put to an end.
Thankfully everybody was okay and there wasn’t much damage.
And it was kinda funny that the CHP had to be called….along with all the other cops in the small town we were in.

What wasn’t so funny?
When 30 minutes later after we got back on the road, Jimmy was pulled over for speeding.
And as Jimmy attempted to get out of it by saying,
” Man, this is such bad luck since I accidentally just hit a police officer about a half hour ago.”
The cops head snapped up and he replied, “YOU’RE THE GUY?!?”
Not sure I’ve ever seen a ticket written so fast.
Needless to say it was a slowly driven LONG and QUIET ride home.

Thankfully we had this to stare at when all was said and done…..

And that is how we do Lake Tahoe….

just the beginning of my wish list

As much as Jimmy wants me to keep things the same in the home, I just love switching little things up to keep it fresh and new.
Therefore, I’m always on the hunt for little finds here and there….a couple of things I’ve found and loved?
Garden stools/tables.
I abolutely MUST have this next to my DIY chair that I, uh, have yet to DIY.

And before I found my credenza, this corner tv stand would have been amazing:

And then of course, I still have to invest in about a dozen flamless candles,
because those ARE my new obsession….
And maybe a lil kitchen rug type runner thing.
And then….
Someone stop me now.

mid early thirties

When I was 24 I was kinda freaking out that I was about to be in my mid 20’s.
I was all, WOAH, stop the bus and let me off…
I may have even bought a book titled something like, Quarter Life Crisis.
Yup, I’m the ONE person who bought that book.
And then the second half of my 20’s came and went and something changed.
{or maybe the quarter life crisis just passed on it’s merry way?}
Because I actually became EXCITED about turning 30.
Maybe Oprah has something to do with it.  I mean, doesn’t she always?
Anyway…

Today I turn 32.
I am officially in my mid early thirties, and I’m actually more excited about it then I was when I turned 30.

I just adore getting older.
Weird, right?
I know that may not ALWAYS be the case, but it is for the moment, and I am embracing it.
And what’s really odd is that my 30’s haven’t been all that easy.
I’ve had to make some difficult decisions.
I’ve had to say some goodbye’s that were harder than I ever imagined.
I’ve had to sit with a professional and discuss some issues that weren’t easy to face.
I’ve had to realize that things and relationships aren’t always what they have seemed.
I’ve loved …
and lost.
But, I think that’s what I love about aging, and what has been the great thing about my 30’s.
It has brought me courage.
Courage to stand up for myself.
Courage to acknowledge when things need to change.
Courage to say goodbye to what isn’t working, and courage to fall forward towards change.
Courage to embrace change.
Courage to face the truth…
even if it’s not easy.

I may not a whole lot calmer.
But I am a little.
I may not be a whole lot wiser.
But I am a little.

And that’s enough for me.

So here’s to another birthday.
Here’s to another year.
Here’s to getting older.
