fashion friday: the real me

Since I started Fashion Fridays, I think I may have deceived some of you into thinking I get dressed all cute every day, and well….that just isn’t the case. I mean, every chance I get to leave the house (other than to go to Target or Costco) well then, yes….I get dressed up. And by dressed up, I mean get dressed. And often times, I’ve been known to overdress for a simple kids birthday party simply because I’m so excited to go out and be with grown ups, that I want to wear my Sunday best.
Oh well, there are worse crimes.
So, in the spirit of being real….it’s time you see the real me. In all my glory. The me that my husband and my kids get to see every morning and every evening, and all the times in between.
Are you ready?
Do you have your rose colored (or beer) goggles on?
For the first time ever. Introducing, The Real Me!

I know, shocking isn’t it? I mean, there is absolutely no airbrushing here, folks.
Tank: Old Hanes passed down from closet to jammies.
Sweatshirt: American Eagle {TJ Maxx}
PJ Pants: Old Navy, and a staple in my wardrobe.
Headband: mark.com
Exhasperated look: Mine, all mine. And priceless I might add.
Okay okay, because I can’t leave you with that image in your head for the weekend, and for the sake of real fashion, there is a real outfit post below.
I went out with a bunch of young’uns this last weekend and danced until 2 in the morning. It was a blast, until I got home at 3 and woke up with the kids at 6. Then it wasn’t seeming so fun. I think it took me until about Wednesday before I felt back to normal again. It’s rough being old….er.
Anyway, here’s what I didn’t wear. Yes, what I didn’t wear. Because although it looks somewhat okay in these pictures, with the weight I gained NOT weighing myself (more on that later, I’m not ready to talk about it yet), I felt it accentuated a little more pooch than necessary. And while I may be older than most in that club, I certainly didn’t want them thinking I was old AND pregnant.

{My cabinet is not blackened up there to the right. But, when I tried to fix my dumb red eye, it did something weird…just didn’t want you thinking I had ghetto cupboards or anything.}
Dress: Forever 21
Tank: The Closet
Boots: Anne Klein {TJ Maxx}
Shorts: Can’t remember for the life of me
Purse: Hallmark. Yes, I said Hallmark. And even better, for $3 on clearance.
Belt: Vintage. Which really means so old I don’t know where I got it. And as you may have noticed…I couldn’t decide if the belt was good or not so good. Which didn’t really end up mattering, because I scratched the outfit all together.
Necklace: Plato’s Closet
And yes, I realize it’s two weeks in row showing off yellow, but I figured what the heck…with summer almost over, I gotta keep the spirit alive.
Here’s what I did wear:

{Judging by the guy to my left, the balding one, I wasn’t the oldest in the club after all!}
LBD: A.B.S {TJ Maxx}
Chunky Red Necklace: Wet Seal
Boots: you can’t see, but the same as in the yellow dress pictures.

  1. Oh man… I can’t decide if the first pic or the last is my favorite!?

  2. Oh Summer…beautiful as always and I love the boots!!!!

  3. Glad to see I’m not the only one rocking the PJ’s and sweatshirt look!

    LBM x

  4. There’s always got be some youngins in the party to make you feel youthful at heart again! I hear ya about the staying out late part. I can’t..i won’t do it anymore. With children it’s hard enough keeping up. And you’re right…it literally takes days to feel good again 🙁 Cute LBD. The necklace is FAB.U.LOUS.

  5. Thanks for sharing the “real” you. You look great no matter what you’re wearing because true beauty comes from within. Inner beauty which unfortunately is rare, comes from the inside. You’ve been blessed with that inner beauty.

  6. I don’t know what stomach pouch you are speaking of- but it’s all about how we feel in the outfit, not how others perceive us right?

    Personally, I liked the yellow with the belt. It tied in with the black tank thingy.

    And the bald guy- just to let you know…my 20 year old went bald in HS. So not all bald guys are old.

  7. OH man that Sunday best comment cracks me up. When my husband and I were still just dating anytime we were about to hang out with my future sister in law I would be all “Ugh what am I going to wear? She is always so dressed up??” And Hubby would be all “We’re just going to the movies, wear Jeans like you always do, she is going to be in a prom dress bc she never gets to go out.” Obv she was a SAHM and now I totally get it!

  8. Okay, the balding man in funny, but I’m totally mesmerized by the dude with the knife-like adams apple behind you.

    Seriously, he could poke an eye out with that thing!

  9. First off, you look totally smokin’ in that yellow dress, girl! I see no accentuated pooch, or whatever you called it. But, at the same time, I know it’s no fun to wear an outfit that you don’t feel comfortable in. And, I think the real you is very beautiful, too!

  10. okay ..I don’t see a pooch at all! I always feel like i have a pooch too but everyone says “what pooch!” I know what you mean. But you don’t have a pooch! love the necklace. I cannot party anymore either it takes me a whole week to get back form nowhere land…

  11. Now you are even cuter because you are just as cool as I am in your sweats and pajama pants! Love it also love the club dress. You are brave. I can’t remember the last time I went to a club! You go!

  12. Fashion Friday is always such fun! Participating for the first time; check it out to learn a little lesson about a different kind of fashion!

  13. Love. Love. Love all your fashion pics as usual, even the frumpy one. That is my daily fashion staple. I dig that red necklace and the black boots in the kitchen pic. I wear white jeans and bright colors all year round. If Vogue and Glamour tells me I can, I do. My first fall outfit is white jeans, my black flat tall boots, green jacket, and white top with my LV bag. I can’t wait to pull up to carpool and walk lil’ D to class in that get-up. It’s so Angelina Jolie. Take care.

  14. very cool. thanks for making us peeps who live in PJ pants at home feel special 🙂

  15. Whether comfy or dressed up you still look great!

  16. You are just too many things and I love you. PLEASE will you email me, I NEED your fashion help/advice. I gotta dress up real nice. Mama Kat is helping me with shoes but I want you too.

  17. You are still a hot mama!!

    The real me most days – hair pulled up in a pony or bun (on ballet days), some basic makeup – mascara and a bit of eyeshadow so I don’t look like death, but nothing else as I just sweat it off – and tights, leotards, tanks, sweats… ah, so sexy! 🙂 So, like you, when I get to go somewhere social, I tend to go overboard since I live the rest of my time in sweaty dance gear! LOL

    Happy weekend!!!

    xoxo J

  18. I love the “real you”. I was totally thinking of having a gym clothes post, because that is what I usually wear!
    Love the yellow dress.

  19. Love the yellow dress!!

    I do a 365 thing on my site, and there are definitely some “real me” photos on there. Ugh, they make me cringe a little. You look great though!

  20. You’re so adorable, Summer. You can pull off anything! (I gotta say, though, the “real you” outfit’s my favorite so far!) <3

  21. LOL… Summer, I love the “real you”! I have that AE sweatshirt, and I rock it like it was a designer sweater when it’s cold outside! I LOVE it!

    Ah, I too went safe when I went dancing with the girls til 2am last night, and I regretted it. I was going to wear my “South Beach” flirty, just-covers, white skirt, but it was chilly and rainy so I went with jeans instead. Dancing til 2am gets hot in jeans.

    Glad you had a fun night out!

  22. I had to go to the doctor as week…and I dressed up because I NEVER get to dress up.

    Love that red necklace!

  23. I love that yellow dress…not that I could pull it off to save my life. But it’s adorable. And you look great in your sweats anyway!
