breastfeeding & resolutions

Okay, so every once in awhile I get a wild hair up my butt to write an article for Associated Content.
Here are two I wanted to share with you guys…
And of course I’d love to hear your feedback! (the good stuff of course!)
This one is one I wrote with a neighbor friend of mine. Our goal is to meet once a week so we can write more. Here’s our first attempt.
And then here’s one that I wrote myself about keeping your New Years Resolutions:
So there ya go. Check em out and have a Happy Monday!

  1. Those are great! The “F” word…hahahahaha!

Something about breastfeeding grosses me out. Or, I guess it’s the breast milk itself that’s gross. I’m a nanny so I’ve experience bottles of breastmilk for years and I’m always like, ew, this came out of them, gross, and now I’m testing the temperature on my wrist, yuck.

What’s the grossest for me is the breast pumps. Seeing the milk come through those tubes. Not normal.

I’ll probably breastfeed, but only if I don’t have to use a breast pump.

  2. hahaha! LOVE the article! me, i’m a breastfeeding mommmy, but because of infant reflux (with my son), i had to switch to formula and he turned out fine. we’ll see how it goes this time around; so far so good. even though i’m more inclined to b/f, trust me- i don’t frown upon formula. in fact, sometimes i really wish that was the only option, for sanity’s sake! great article, thanks for sharing! 🙂

  3. Wow Summer! That was a great article on Breastfeeding..I swear we are so much alike it’s scary! I too find myself scremaing Sh*T and F*ck when my baby latches on …I just recovered from mastitis…it was awful. My nipples are always sore, cracked and bleeding, I am at my breaking point. My baby is about to turn 7 months old and as Much as I want to continue to exclusively breastfeed her, I just don’t know if I can do it! I feel your pain and I would never judge any mommy for her parental decisions. You go girl! well said!

  4. Great articles! The breastfeeding thing made me crack up. There is no shame in formula feeding for sure. I was one of those lucky ones though who breastfed my youngest daughter until she was a year old! Nipples in tact and all! I love the walking/sprinting tips, I am going to incorporate that into my exercise routine, thanks!

  5. I’ll go have a look at these real soon… I check out that site and then never did anything about it. I remember when you posted about your first article. I must try this…

  6. I left you a long comment on the Associated Content site. I gotta go back and read the resolutions post tomorrow, but let me just tell you that your breastfeeding article must be published. In a book that is required reading for all expectant and new mothers. Somebody’s GOTTA tell that side of the story. I loved the honesty and the bravery. Way to tell it like it is. Rock on, girl.

  7. HAHAHA! Two phrases I was unprepared for: “dangling nipple” (!!??!) and “red, bleeding nipples”. Eep! Great read. Great article. I laughed out loud picturing husbands searching Target for the nipple shield. 🙂

  8. i loved the line comparing breast milk to chinese food!

my deal was a little different. my nipples hung in there, but come to find out, i was starving my poor baby by caving to the pressure of “sticking it out”. at 5 months, he was diagnosed with cf, and it became abundantly clear that breast milk wasn’t going to cut it (and he should have been having probably double the calories since birth), and i switched to formula. suddenly the clouds parted, the sun began to shine, my baby didn’t cry and cry and cry all the time and i began to feel sane again.

i am happy to report that he is 15, happy, healthy (even with the cf) and nobody thinks any less of him or me (in fact, it doesn’t come up because, even though when they are little, the food you give them seems like the biggest thing in the f’in world… they do grow up and other things become just a little more important.

well done, miss summer! love it!
